The Nationals began the second half of the season with a 5-0 shutout over the Reds in Cincinnati. The win improved their record to 53-36 and further padded their first place lead in the NL East. Tonight these teams meet again in the second of the four game series with first pitch at 7:10 p.m. Max Scherzer will get the start.

The Nationals scored two runs in the top of the first. Stephen Drew singled home Brian Goodwin with a base hit to center field. Anthony Rendon would later single up the middle to score Bryce Harper.

Harper would homer twice. His first came in the third with a two-run shot while his second came in the fifth. That put the Nats up 5-0.
