Bullpen Blows Another Lead, Ryan Raburn Bails Nats Out with Walk-Off

The Nationals and Mets were in the midst of a pitcher’s duel between Stephen Strasburg and Steven Matz. The game was scoreless unit the eighth inning when Michael Taylor hit an epic two-run homer that put the Nats in front 2-0. They went into the ninth needing just one strike from Matt Albers but Curtis Granderson, who pinched hit, tied the game with one swing of the bat with a two-run homer.

In the ninth, Matt Wieters and Stephen Drew each walked. Wieters advanced to third on a fly out by Adam Lind. Ryan Raburn would then get the bounce he needed to give the Nationals the walk-off win.

Albers was credited with the win and his record improved to 4-1 however he had his third blown save of the season. Strasburg went seven innings allowing just two hits while striking out six. On the Mets side, Matz went seven innings allowing four hits while striking out four. On Tuesday the Nationals will send to Joe Ross (3-1, 3.55 ERA) to the mound as he faces Seth Lugo (4-3, 5.12 ERA) in some Fourth of July action from Nationals Park. First pitch is at 11:05 a.m. Oh and if you haven’t voted for Anthony Rendon yet, what are you waiting for?
