The voice of the Syracuse Chiefs, the Nationals AAA affiliate, will get the thrill of calling two MLB games this week. Kevin Brown will fill in for Charlie Slowes during Tuesday and Wednesday’s Nationals games in Pittsburgh against the Pirates. It’ll be the first time Brown has called a Major League Baseball game.

The Syracuse Chiefs are pleased to announce that “Voice of the Chiefs” Kevin Brown will make his Major-League debut on the Washington Nationals’ Radio Network, this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday, May 16th and 17th.

Brown will fill in for Nationals broadcaster Charlie Slowes during the Nationals’ first two games of the team’s series at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Brown will join 12-year Nationals voice Dave Jageler – a Syracuse University graduate who began his career broadcasting Chiefs baseball on Time Warner Cable and Empire Sports Network – on the call.

“We are very happy for Kevin,” said Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol. “His talent is obvious and being discovered by people outside of Chiefsville. I know Kevin will do a great job and it is only a matter of time before he is called up for a bigger opportunity full time.”

“I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to the Nationals – specifically to Dave Jageler – for this chance to call Major League Baseball”, said Brown. “Dave and Charlie make up one of the best broadcast booths in the game, and it’s an extraordinary honor to be part of the show for a couple of days. I’m also grateful to Jason Smorol and the Chiefs’ front office for allowing me to jump at this opportunity.”

Brown is in his seventh season with Syracuse and third full season as “Voice of the Chiefs”. During the past offseason, he worked as a play-by-play broadcaster for ESPN, covering college football, basketball, hockey and lacrosse, as well as a weekly high-school football game. Most recently, Brown was on the call of Denver and Air Force’s first-round matchup in the NCAA Lacrosse Tournament this past Saturday, May 13th.

Third-year Chiefs broadcaster Eric Gallanty will have the call when the Chiefs visit Buffalo this week, beginning a four-game series Monday at 6:05 p.m.
