Daniel Murphy had four hits and five RBI’s while Matt Wieters hit his first home run in a Nationals uniform in the Nats’ 8-3 win over the Cardinals at Nationals Park. The Nats took two games in the three game set and will go for the sweep this afternoon.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Murphy singled into right field to score Gio Gonzalez. Gio got the win on the mound going seven innings striking out six. After the Cardinals tied it in the fourth with a home run by Randal Grichuk, the Nats answered in the bottom of the fourth. Jayson Weth homered into the Cardinals’ bullpen in left-center that looked very similar to the one he hit in Game 4 of the 2012 NLDS against the Cardinals.

Wieters would later belt his first home run as a Nat to give the home team a 4-2 lead.

In the fifth, Murphy would hit a tater.

In the seventh Ryan Zimmerman hit the ball to shortstop Aledmys Diaz and he threw the ball past first allowing Murphy to score. In the bottom of the eighth, Murphy doubled into center field to score Bryce Harper. The Nats would take the second game 8-3 and they’ll send Max Scherzer (1-0, 2.70 ERA) up against Mike Leake (0-1, 1.13 ERA) to the mound looking to get the sweep.
