The Nationals had an inspiring comeback in the ninth inning in Philadelphia only to fall short in the 10th inning thanks to a walk-off single by Cesar Hernandez into left field that scored Daniel Nava that gave the Phillies the 4-3 win.

Nats ace Stephen Strasburg had a good outing on the mound going seven innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out eight batters.

The Nats struggled to get any runs across the board until the ninth inning. With one out, Adam Lind got the rally started with a single into left field. Jayson Werth drew a walk. Stephen Drew was unable to get the runners home as he struck out to Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez.

Ryan Zimmerman came into the game to pinch hit for Jose Lobaton and delivered the game-tying home run.

The Nationals welcome the Cardinals tonight in the first of a three-game series in DC. It’ll be Tanner Roark (1-0, 3.00 ERA) vs. Adam Wainwright (0-1, 3.60 ERA) in game one. First pitch is at 7:05.
