Max Scherzer made his Grapefruit League debut on Wednesday afternoon, going 4/23 innings. The righthander, who made his first start since Game 5 of the NLDS, was recovering from a stress fracture injury in his right ring finger. Scherzer threw 73 pitches, 49 of them were for strikes. He struck out four batters.

Washington scored their lone run in the top of the sixth with an RBI single by Jayson Werth into center field that scored Trea Turner.

This game at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches started at 1:45 due to rain in the area but the downpours didn’t faze Nationals number two prospect Erick Fedde. He had a solid final outing of the spring, holding a strong Mets lineup with most of their starters to two hits over five shutout innings while striking out three.

The Nats scored their lone run of the afternoon with a double into right field by Anthony Rendon that scored Trea Turner in the third inning.

Turner also seems to be adjusting to his new position at shortstop pretty well.
