Tanner Roark had a solid start on the mound and helped pitch USA to their first ever trip to the World Baseball championship with a 2-1 win over undefeated and two time WBC champion Japan.

Roark went four innings allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out one batter. He also showed some great reflexes in the third inning.

Following the win, he was interviewed by MLB Network on the field.

Team USA struck first in the top of the fourth with a base hit by Andrew McCutchen into left field to score Christian Yelich.

Japan tied the game in the sixth with a home run by Ryosuke Kikuchi over the center field wall.

In the eighth, USA took the lead for good with an RBI groundout by Adam Jones that scored Brandon Crawford from third.

USA meets Puerto Rico tonight with first pitch at 9 p.m. eastern from Dodger Stadium.
