Joe Ross had a strong start on the mound and the Nats bats came to life in a Nationals 9-1 win on Wednesday over the Detroit Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida.
The Nationals right hander went the first two innings allowing just one hit and striking out one. Michael Taylor got things started for Washington in the top of the second with an 2-RBI single that scored Spencer Kieboom and Emmanuel Burriss. In the third, the Nats added on with a bases loaded RBI single by Brandon Snyder that scored Jhonatan Solano. Kieboom followed with a sac-fly that scored Matt Skole.
In the fourth, Taylor belted his second homer of the spring with a solo shot over the left field wall. That made the score 5-0. In the sixth, an RBI ground rule double by Andrew Stevenson scored Grant Green. Neftali Soto followed with a sac-fly that brought Stevenson home. Raudy Read and Drew Ward would then hit back-to-back homers.
