The Rockies scored five runs in the 11th inning to defeat the Nationals 9-4 on Saturday afternoon in DC.
Colorado scored three runs early against Nats starter AJ Cole. Charlie Blackmon homered in the top of the third. In the fourth, Cole threw a wild pitch and Nolan Arenado scored while Daniel Descalso was up. Cole intentionally walked him. Jorge De La Rosa followed with a single into center field that scored David Dahl from second base. Cole finished with four strikeouts.
The Nats got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Bryce Harper doubled home Daniel Murphy for their first run. After Anthony Rendon got on with a single, Wilson Ramos followed with a line drive into right field. The Nats tied the game a couple batters later with an RBI groundout by Danny Espinosa.
The Rockies got back in front int he seventh inning with an RBI groundout by Carlos Gonzalez that scored Blackmon. Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, the Nats tied it up. With two outs and Ben Revere on, Jayson Werth singled to left field and Revere used his speed to score the tying run.
The game went to extras and the Rockies scored five runs in the 11th to win it. Yusmeiro Petit was pitching in relief for the Nats. After Cristhian Adames got on, Charlie Blackmon followed with a home run. DJ LeMahieu followed with a single then Gonzalez launched the second two-run homer of the inning. The Rockies scored the final run with an RBI single by Nick Hundley.
