The Nats got an 8-5 win over the Rockies on Friday night at Nationals Park. Gio Gonzalez got his 100th win of his career as he went six innings allowing just two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
The Nats took a 1-0 lead in the first on a home run by Jayson Werth into the left field seats. It was the second straight night he homered and it was his 18th of the year. The Rockies tied the game in the second on a sac fly. In the bottom of the third, Daniel Murphy got an RBI groundout that scored Trea Turner. Colorado tied it in the fourth with an RBI double by Nick Hundley.
Washington had the bases loaded with Jose Lobaton up. He grounded into a double play but it allowed Anthony Rendon to score, giving the Nationals a 3-2 lead. Daniel Murphy belted his 25th home run of the season in the fifth, a solo shot to put the Nats out front 4-2.
The Nats added four runs in the seventh inning. With Trea Turner on, Werth sent him home with a double into left-center. Murphy walked. Bryce Harper followed with a triple to the centerfield wall to score Werth and Murphy. Rendon brought Harper home with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Today AJ Cole will look to have another impressive outing. Last time he pitched, he struck out eight against a powerful O’s lineup on Monday. First pitch is at 1:05 from DC.
