The Nationals and Indians concluded their mini two game series at Nationals Park yesterday with an afternoon affair. The Nats dropped the first game and were looking for the split. They got it with a 7-4 win.
Wilson Ramos got the Nats on the board in the first with a single into centerfield that scored Jayson Werth. After Cleveland tied it in top of the second, the Nats answered in the bottom frame. Werth smacked a three-run homer into the Indians bullpen in left field to put Washington up 4-1.
The Nats scored three runs in the fifth after the Tribe tied it in the third. Daniel Murphy doubled to the right field wall to score Trea Turner. Anthony Rendon followed with a double that scored Werth and Murphy.
Gio Gonzalez earned the win and improved his record to 8-9, striking out five. Mark Melancon picked up the save, his 32nd.
