The Nationals welcomed the Giants for a weekend series at Nationals Park. The Nationals took the first game 5-1 while dropping the second game…

On Friday night Gio Gonzalez had a solid outing on the mound and the Nats used home runs by Trea Turner and Wilson Ramos.

The Nats took a 1-0 lead lead with an RBI single by Daniel Murphy that scored Jayson Werth. Wilson Ramos followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Bryce Harper from third to give them a 2-0 lead. The Nats went up 3-0 in the third after Harper hit a sac fly that scored Turner.

The Giants got a run back in the fourth but the Nats answered back in the fifth and sixth courtesy of the long ball. Turner launched his second homer of the season with a line drive into the left field seats. Ramos homered in the sixth over the centerfield wall. It was his 17th homer of the season, a career high for the buffalo.

Gonzalez got the win, improving his record to 7-9, by going seven innings with seven strikeouts.

The Nats dropped the second game of the three game set 7-1. Stephen Strasburg lost just his second game of the season, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out eight. The Nats scored their lone run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. Already down 6-0, Danny Espinosa plated in Wilson Ramos with an RBI single.

Nats prospect Brian Goodwin was called up prior to the game from AAA Syracuse. He came into the game as a defensive replacement for Bryce Harper in the top of the seventh. He flied out to Hunter Pence in his first major league at-bat.

The Nats and Giants conclude their three game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is at 1:35.
