Nats #5 prospect Reynaldo Lopez had an up-and-down Major League debut Tuesday night at Nationals Park. He went 4.2 innings allowing six runs on 10 hits against the Dodgers in the loss. Despite all that, he still struck out nine batters.
Lopez had a rocky first inning as the Dodgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a leadoff home run by Chase Utley on the third pitch of the at-bat and a two RBI base hit by Joc Pederson. In the second, Utley struck again with an RBI single that scored Chris Taylor. In the fifth, Aderian Gonzalez and Yasiel Puig both got RBI singles and LA was up 6-0 as Lopez exited the game.
The Nats got their first run of the night in the bottom of the fifth. Jose Lobaton belted a home run over the left-centerfield wall. The Dodgers added another run in the top of the eighth with another RBI by Utley. In the bottom of the eighth with Lobaton and Heisey on base, Trea Turner lined a triple to score both. Daniel Murphy belted a double to send Turner home and make it a 7-4 game. The Dodgers added one more run in the ninth on a home run by Yasmani Grandal and LA shut the door with an 8-4 win. The Nats look to bounce back in game two tonight. First pitch is at 7:05.
