Syracuse Chiefs (AAA International League): OFF
Harrisburg Senators (AA Eastern League): The Trenton Thunder rode another strong pitching performance to best the Harrisburg Senators, 3-1, on Thursday night at Arm & Hammer Park to take the rubber match of their three-game series.
Making his Double-A debut, Trenton starter Chase Adams tamed the Senators’ bats as he fired five shutout innings. Harrisburg had baserunners in four of the five innings but failed to cash in on any opportunity.
Meanwhile, Harrisburg starter Lucas Giolito struggled working ahead to batters and his pitch count escalated quickly. Giolito (5-3) allowed a home run to Lane Adams in the second inning and an additional two runs two innings later on a triple and passed ball.
Giolito allowed three runs on six hits, a walk, and a hit batsman over five innings while striking out seven. Michael Brady fired two scoreless innings in relief to keep the Thunder in striking distance.
Harrisburg threatened in the seventh inning as they plated a run when Chris Bostick doubled and scored from second base on a throwing error. A walk to Spencer KIeboom and Kevin Keyes‘ single loaded the bases for Harrisburg. Unfortunately, Stephen Perez grounded into a double play to end the rally.
Bostick was the only Senator to record a multi-hit game as the second baseman singled in the ninth inning. He remained stranded on the bases as Zach Collier and Kieboom struck out to end the game.
The Senators begin a three-game weekend set against the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Right-hander Phillips Valdez will square off against former Senator Nick Pivetta.
