Daniel Murphy’s solo shot in the fifth inning would be the lone run the Nationals would score in a 3-1 loss to the White Sox last night at U.S. Celluar Field in Chicago. Despite dropping the third game of the three-game series, the Nats still took the first two to win the series.

It was Murphy’s 11th home run of the season and it landed into the right field bullpen. Trailing 3-1, the Nationals put together a ninth inning rally with two outs. Jayson Werth got on with a single. Bryce Harper followed with a single of his own into centerfield as Werth made it to third base. With runners at the corners Murphy couldn’t bring them home as he flied out to left fielder Melky Cabrera to end the game.

Gio Gonzalez got the start for Washington and went seven innings allowing three runs on five hits for 10 strikeouts in the loss. Shawn Kelley worked the eighth inning and got a strikeout while allowing no hits.

The Nationals return home to DC tonight to host the Phillies in 80s Night.
